tough customer

Jay-Larni, an 11-year old girl from Roebourne, came to get her nails painted today. She was my first tough customer. She was certain of one thing – she wanted the ‘Glow in the Dark’ polish. She decided to have the name of her nephew written on her nails. His name is Tyrell – leaving four nails free. She didn’t know what she wanted. She asked her friend to decide for her but she didn’t like her friend’s suggestions.

Jay-Larni went through my photos and exclaimed that I gotta come up with new designs. I agreed but explained that I work full-time doing other things. I suggested she have triangles painted along the top of one nail like teeth. She replied, ‘No, I hate triangles! They are the shape of the devil!’

She settled on having a ‘shooting star’. As I painted the star, she said, ‘What are you doing?!’

‘Painting a star,’ I replied.

‘I don’t like it!’

Bah!

In the end, I thought her nails looked alright.

For the base colours, I used my new American Apparel nail lacquer in Jupiter (Glow in the Dark) and Neon Violet.
